John Three Sixteen – A Deeper Perspective

John Three Sixteen – A Deeper Perspective

Without doubt, I believe John 3:16 is about the most popular verse in the entire Bible, if not the most popular. But a lot of believers don’t know the richness of that scripture and the truth embedded in it.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16.

It started by affirming that God, the creator of ALL things, is affectionate toward all His creations, and then stated the magnitude of His affection, which is the sacrifice of His one and ONLY child. This established God as a Father. And the next statement shows the reason for the sacrifice, “That WHOSOEVER believes in Him, the sacrificed son, shall not perish, but have everlasting life.

Here is what you need to understand first, I believe John 3:16 is the summary of the entire New Testament, and the fulfillment of the old. God declared to the devil after his greatest achievement, the fall of man, that he, the devil, would strike the heel of the seed of the woman (speaking of Jesus) causing him to fall, but that falling would be to make him to come to the level of the devil so He could defeat devil in his fallen state – the sin of us all was laid on him (Is. 53:6), that means he fell short of God’s glory like we all did, because he took our place, and since the wages of sin is death, he had to die, but his death was to be able to crush the head of the serpent, just like God already declared in Gen. 3:15, which means total victory, that is why he shouted, “It is finished!” The devil’s bruises on his heel were temporal, but His crushing of the head of the serpent was absolute. Then He nailed the evidence of His victory over the devil to the cross,

“having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.” Col. 2:14-15.

All of the facts above are embedded in John 3:16, and they expounded the reason for the sacrifice, using different methods to state and establish the same point. This is how Peter put it,

“Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God. He suffered physical death, but he was raised to life in the Spirit.

My emphasis in the scripture above  is, “To bring us safely home to God,”  meaning we already staryed from away from home, and the sacrifice was needed to bring us back home to our Father, God. He as the First born of the Father (Col. 1:15), had to take the responsibility for our reconciliation with the Father. So, this tells me that the sacrifice was a most if we must gained back access to the Father. Therefore, the John 3:16 is a statement of access to the fatherhood of God,

“Now all of us can come to the Father through the same Holy Spirit because of what Christ has done for us.” Eph. 2:18.

It was stated earlier in John 1:12 that,

“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.”

That stated clearly, the status that those who believe in the sacrificed Son would assume, they would become the Children of God, enjoying His Fatherhood. So, that means in the sacrifice of His only Son was the birth of many other children who can equally share His Fatherhood.

“But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children.” Gal. 4:4-5.

“God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.” Eph. 1:5

Therefore, the sacrifice of Jesus Christ gave us full access into the family of God, where we can legally enjoy all that He has, as His children.

We can see the truth about this claim all over the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ, He was always using the words, “Your heavenly Father.”

Friend, everything you need to live life maximally and enjoy the riches embedded in it is attached to your knowledge of your sonship and growing into it. The reason why an heir to the throne differs not from a slave is because he has not come into the realization of his full potential. The ignorance of your sonship and His fatherhood places a restriction on what you enjoy in God. Your inheritance cannot be delivered to your beyond your level of growth. That is why it is essential for us to initiate and maintain an intimate father-child relationship with God, so as to be nourished by Him and grow into maturity, well able to fully manifest His glory on earth.

John 3:16, from my point of view, is a declaration of the affection of God as the father who paid the highest price possible to get us access back into a father-child relationship that He created us for so we can enjoy His fatherhood and perpetually live with Him as His children, by believing in His Son that was given in our place, Jesus Christ.

Amongst many other things I have stated above, ultimately, John 3:16 is An introduction to the fatherhood of God, everything else serves to validate and buttress its claim. That suggests to me that everything you want lies in knowing, accepting and understanding the fatherhood of God. What a quest to embark on!
