If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. Dan. 3:7
I heard the story of an airplane that almost crashed, while everyone was saying their last prayers and some hoping for a miracle, there was a little girl who was fast asleep, a flight attendant woke her up and told her to fasten her seat-belt. She opened her eyes and saw the lightning flashing all around the plane, but she seemed unperturbed. Turning to the flight attendant, she asked, “Is my Daddy at the control?” Yes! The flight attendant replied. Then the little girl smiled, closed her eyes and went back to sleep, the flight attendant stood there in amazement. And soon enough, the storm ceased and they landed safely.
Another story was told about a top official whose office was at the last floor of a hundred storey building, and there was a fire accident right in his office and the only way out was the window. Then He turned to God and asked, “Father, what should I do?” and God said to him, “Son, do you trust Me?” ‘I do,’ was his reply. Then God told him, “Jump from the window!” Though fearful, he jumped as instructed by God, and amazingly, he landed on a packed truck carrying a load of used mattresses.
Truthfully, if you found yourself in any of the two scenarios above, what would you do? Do you trust God enough to be calm in the midst of a turbulence? Can you trust God enough to jump? That little girl displayed a firm confidence in the competence of her father, and the top official showcased a resolute belief in the integrity of God to perform as believed. That’s exactly what God expects from His children, an unwavering trust in His ability and a resolute belief in His fatherhood.
Our Father is the All Powerful God, and how He delights in displaying His power, He takes pleasure in showcasing His mightiness in and through His children. He said,
“Call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory.” Ps. 50:15
That’s how He feeds, He lives on glory, that is His meal. He told me sometime ago, “The only food I eat is My glory….” The reason why He will rescue you is so you can give Him His food – Glory. And the only way to enjoying this rescue is through the avenue of faith which is expressed by believing Him enough to call upon Him.
Our Father delights so much in people who dare to trust in His fatherhood so much so that He makes them His priority.
“The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.” Ps. 34:15
“For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him.” 2 Chr. 16:9
God’s searchlight goes to work everyday looking for people who have Confident Assurance in His fatherhood, and His spotlight remains on them for special favor and strange acts. Such people are called, ‘The Righteous.’ The Bible said concerning Abraham,
“Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.” Rom. 4:3
Abraham deposited faith into the account of God, and God credited his account with righteousness. Showing confident assurance in the fatherhood of God is the pathway to enjoying God’s best. It shows you agree that He is a responsible Father whose priority is in taking care of His children. The same way you didn’t have to bribe your earthly parents before they took care of you while growing up, is the same way you don’t have to bribe God with special offerings and sacrifices before He performs His duty as your Father. Though those things, special offerings and sacrifices, have their place, but they are never major requirements as far as enjoying the fatherhood of God is concerned. All that is really required is “SONSHIP.” And how do you become His son? It is by simply RECEIVING or ACCEPTING Jesus as your savior and redeemer through your BELIEF in Him.
“But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.” John 1:12
It is important to say that, is it possible to be His son and not enjoy His best, knowledge makes the difference. That’s where Confident Assurance comes in, which is always triggered by knowledge.
What is CONFIDENT ASSURANCE?
A practical definition can be seen in the opening text above, Dan 3:7. That’s the zenith of a display of faith in God’s faithfulness.
I define Confident assurance as, the steadiness of the mind and a total mental conviction based on a known or stated truth that is legally binding, such that brings calmness of the mind and triggers corresponding action, according to the knowledge of the truth.”
Ultimately, it is the absolute mental persuasion about the ability and faithfulness of God, such that brings rest and calmness of the spirit and propels action.
“For thus saith the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength…” Is. 30:15
The three Hebrew boys displayed a calm spirit and boldness to face the king because they knew the truth about their God, that He was both Able and Willing to save them from the king. No better way to ridicule and talk down the ego of a powerful man than to state to his face that you are loyal to someone who is more powerful than he is. They made a public disgrace of the king by making a public showcase of their trust in their God. And boy, how our God and Father takes pride in such.
Child of God, if you would constantly make a show of your trust in the fatherhood of God, by believing Him and taking steps accordingly and resting in His faithfulness, He will always show up for you. Your confident assurance in His promises commits His integrity to perform that which you are confident about. One of the statements I love the most in the entire Bible is, “IN WHICH IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR GOD TO LIE!” (Heb. 6:18)
If you are a legitimate child, then you are entitled to whatever your heart desires and you ask of your father. The questions are, “Is he capable of what you are asking for? And is he willing to give you? The good news is, our Father is not only capable, and He is not just willing, but has already given us ALL that we may ever need in this life. But you need faith – confident assurance, to receive all that you desire. And that is only and entirely generated by the knowledge of God.
“According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue.” 2 Pet. 1:3
“He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” Rom. 8:32
Therefore, a confident assurance in God guarantees the move of God in your direction, and above all, it shows you are in agreement with who is He says He is – A FAITHFUL AND RESPONSIBLE FATHER. I dare you to trust Him with confident assurance that He has given you whatever you may ask of, all you need do is receive it with faith.
“You can pray for anything, and if you have faith, you will receive it.” Matth. 21:22
