Foremost in the constitution of the Kingdom of God is the accurate knowledge of God, every other thing hangs on it. But the true and accurate KNOWLEDGE of God was lost ever since ‘Man’ lost his leadership authority to the devil in the garden.
The first thing Adam and Eve did after their eyes were opened was to hide their nakedness from the One who formed their bodies and put all the organs in their rightful places, they were hiding from the God Who wouldn’t need an ultrasound scanner or an X-ray device to see through to the innermost part of their bodies. What were they hiding?
This singular act was an indication of a knowledge gap. They lost the true knowledge of God, they couldn’t see God as He was anymore, they started seeing Him through the lens of their own weaknesses. The same sound of God walking in the garden that they used to run towards now became what they ran away from. (Gen. 3:8)
In the 7th verse of the 3rd chapter of Gen, the Bible declared, “And their eyes were opened….” The question I like to ask every time I read this part is, were their eyes shot before? No! Here is what I think: all along, they were only seeing the Light and the Good, their eyes were shut to evil. But as soon as they tasted the fruit, their eyes became open to evil and darkness and then got shut to the Good and the Light. The first thing that happened to them was the awareness of their own nakedness as if they had always been clothed; they saw it as evil and immediately felt shame. The next thing that happened showed that they had lost the true knowledge of their Creator, their perception of Him changed, their paradigm shifted and they could no longer relate with Him like they used to, they went into hiding.
Since the fall, man lost the true and accurate knowledge of God, and that trickled down to all generations. It was common in those days that only one person or family would know God intimately and accurately, thereby preserving His knowledge for the next generation.
The greatest undoing of any generation is the lack of the accurate knowledge of God. You are the way you are because of the level of the knowledge of God that you have. The supreme possession that any generation can have is the true knowledge of God.
“Don’t let the wise boast in their wisdom, or the powerful boast in their power, or the rich boast in their riches. But those who wish to boast should boast in this alone: that they truly know me and understand that I am the LORD who demonstrates unfailing love and who brings justice and righteousness to the earth, and that I delight in these things. I, the LORD, have spoken!” Jer. 9:23-24
God desires above all other things that we come to the true knowledge of who He is. He said in the scriptures above, “I Delight in these things,” i.e. knowing and understanding Him accurately. You can see throughout the Bible, everything He did was to one end, “That they may know that I AM God….” Ezk. 23:49, “and the nations shall know that I am the Lord God.” Ezk. 36:23.
In another place, He said,
I will give them a heart to know Me, that I am the LORD. Jer. 24:7
It is unfortunate that this generation knows so much ABOUT God, but does not know Him in reality. Even most of the things we do know about Him are not accurate. You can see the effects of this in the Church of Christ, today.
As far as maximizing your God-given purpose here on earth, enjoying good success, and reigning with God eternity are concerned, the true and accurate knowledge of God comes first! And the reason for this is so simple: Until you know who He is, you can’t know who you are, because who you are lies in Who He is!
For in him we live and move and exist.’ Acts 17:28
Friend, except you know who you are, malfunctioning is inevitable, and destruction will follow. Ignorance leads to destruction.
My people are being destroyed because they don’t know me. Hosea 4:6
You can see the importance of knowing God, and the consequence of not knowing Him.
Order is essential to meaningfulness and effectiveness, knowing God accurately and intimately must come first in our lives, otherwise there will be misplacement of priority and misallocation of value; and that will make you live below your glory and things that are less than God will take His place in your heart, leading to idolatry, like we see amongst God’s children, today.
Everything was not only started by God, it also started in God, and for God,
“But we know that there is only one God, the Father, who created everything, and we live for him.” 1 Cor. 8:6.
If the scripture above is true and absolute, don’t you think it is a disaster not to know that God? The world we live in is in chaos today for lack of accurate and true knowledge of God. Virtually everyone knows ABOUT God, but that’s mere information or general knowledge of God, some people call it ‘Head knowledge.’ But I’m talking about the Experiential Knowledge Of God, such that can only come through a personal love-relationship with Him. This can be seen through the life of David, he declared in the book of Psalm,
1 Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
2 Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.
3 For the LORD is the great God, the great King above all gods.
4 In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him.
5 The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.
6 Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the LORD our Maker;
7 for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care. Today, if only you would hear his voice… Psalm 95:1-7
1 Praise the LORD, my soul. LORD my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty.
2 The LORD wraps himself in light as with a garment; he stretches out the heavens like a tent
3 and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters. He makes the clouds his chariot and rides on the wings of the wind.
4 He makes winds his messengers, flames of fire his servants.
5 He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved.
6 You covered it with the watery depths as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains.
7 But at your rebuke the waters fled, at the sound of your thunder they took to flight;
8 they flowed over the mountains, they went down into the valleys, to the place you assigned for them.
9 You set a boundary they cannot cross; never again will they cover the earth.
10 He makes springs pour water into the ravines; it flows between the mountains.
Psalm 104: 1-10
You can see the depth of his knowledge of God, but that only came through his personal walk with God, he affirmed,
Lord, You are mine! Psalm 119:57
Oh, how I love your instructions! Ps. 119:97
Your laws are my treasure; they are my heart’s delight. Ps. 119:111
Everything he did was guided by his knowledge of God. He also once said,
“For I will not present burnt offerings to the LORD my God that have cost me nothing.” 2 Sam 24:24
You can see that he personalized God.
The state of your existence on earth and the determinant factor of where you would be found in eternity are anchored on the quality of your knowledge of God.
“…in flaming fire, bringing judgment on those who don’t know God….” 1 Thes. 1:8
Needful to say, “The strength of the Devil lies in the ignorance of his victims.”
Here is the most amazing thing about the knowledge of God: One of the reasons why Christ came was to reveal God to us – John 17:6 & 26.
Did you even know that the whole essence of Jesus’ death and resurrection is summed up in Eternal Life? – John 3:16.
Here is one of the greatest news of all times – Eternal life does not only come from knowing God, it is KNOWING GOD!
“This is eternal life: To KNOW You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you sent.” John 17:3
“And we know that the Son of God has come, and he has given us understanding so that we can KNOW the true God. And now we live in fellowship with the true God because we live in fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the only true God, and he is eternal life.” 1 John 5:20
Almost everyone wants to spend eternity with God in heaven, and that is eternal life. But that is only possible by knowing God, according to the scriptures.
I will build on this later.
